When you create a project, you pick a template that seeds your spaces, groups, and example pages. The right template saves hours of structural setup and gives you a proven information architecture. This guide helps you choose.
Who this is for
Anyone starting a new Doxbrix project who wants the best starting structure rather than building from scratch.
How templates help
A template isn't just sample text — it's a battle-tested structure: the right spaces for your use case, sensible groups within each, and example pages that show the recommended page shape. You then replace the examples with your real content. You can always restructure later.
Match the template to your goal
The full catalog also includes Marketing Site, Design System, Education Course, and Runbooks & Playbooks.
A decision guide
| If you're documenting… | Start with… |
|---|---|
| A software product for end users | **Product Documentation** |
| A developer platform with an API | **Developer Product Docs** |
| A REST API for developers | **API Documentation** |
| A client library / SDK | **SDK Reference** |
| Customer support content | **Help Center** or **Support FAQ** |
| Internal processes and runbooks | **Internal Knowledge Base** |
| A stream of product updates | **Release Notes & Changelog** |
| Something that doesn't fit | **Blank** |
Combining templates
Most real sites need more than one space. A typical SaaS product uses Documentation for guides, API Reference for endpoints, and Changelog for updates. Start from the closest single template, then add spaces for the others.
When to start blank
Choose Blank when you already have a specific structure in mind, you're importing content that defines its own structure, or you're experimenting and don't want example pages to clean up.
After choosing
Select your template and name the project.
Adjust spaces and groups to match your product's vocabulary.
Swap example pages for your real content, or delete the ones you don't need.
Follow Build your first docs site to finish.
